I had the crazy chance to go to Malaysia in May of 2017 with my best friend and her husband. I was there for a total of 3.5 weeks after which Kate and Jared hung around and headed to Isreal. But in the time that I was there, we made our way through East Malaysia, West Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

I was fortunate to go with Jared who had lived there for 2 years previously. So he knew it well. Because of this, we were able to visit places the average tourist wouldn't normally go. We spent about a week in East Malaysia, the more impoverished and lowly side, before making our way to wealthy West Malaysia where most tourists go. I was able to witness the comfortable, appealing, and impressive as well as the corrupt, manipulated, and poor. And even in the midst of all that, there was beauty. The Malays were good at recognizing it.
